Jobseeker Tips

Your career search process should start by gathering advice, reviewing resume examples or spending time researching your area of interest. Below are a few tips that you may find helpful when developing your credentials, preparing for an interview and networking.

Resume and Cover Letter Tips

Make your resume easy to read

While it is tempting to use bold colours and interesting fonts, the most important thing about your resume is that it should be easily readable. Employers have about six seconds to review your resume and they should be able to easily locate your key skills and qualifications.

 ATS & keyword optimization

Your use of the right keywords will impact how likely your resume is to get past the applicant tracking software. To get your resume noticed, review the job description carefully and then use the keywords that match your skills and abilities from that job description in your resume.

Focus on your accomplishments

Keep your resume focused and not generic. Write what makes you stand out in a sea of applicants. While the job description details can hit the keywords, they should not be the meat of your resume. Focus on your accomplishments and the unique qualities you have to offer.

Cover letter

A great cover letter can set you apart from the competition by highlighting your unique skills and experience. It gives context to the items on your resume. It should not simply repeat your resume. Instead, highlight your accomplishments and communicate your personal brand.
